How to remove a person from a photo on iPhone 16
Every iPhone 16 — including the 16e — supports Apple's Clean Up tool. Here's how to use it, where it falls short, and the better option for harder photos.
Your iPhone 16 can use Apple's Clean Up tool.
The A18 chip supports Apple Intelligence. On iOS 18.1 or later, open the photo, tap Edit › Clean Up, and brush over the person you want gone.
Where Clean Up struggles
It's reliable for small or distant objects. But removing a large person near the camera often leaves smeared patches, and erasing several people in a group shot means working area by area.
For large subjects and group photos: Removex
Removex detects a person from one tap and reconstructs the background at full resolution — including the close-up subjects Clean Up smears. For groups, select everyone and exclude the people you want to keep.
